Germany looked towards France and Britain as being a major influence in their reasons for imperialising. Britain and France already had empires in Africa and Germany wanted their own. Germans felt that if two strong nations such as Britain and France had empires in Africa, then it must be something profitable to do and so Germans sought out to follow Britain's and France's example and the "scramble" was under way.
